About the Drop

MAOTIK (Mathieu Le Sourd) is a French digital artist, who creates work at the intersection of art, science, and technology — immersive environments, interactive installations, digital architectural sculptures, and audiovisual performances. He presents projects of an unpredictable nature, which humanise technology by bringing it closer to our comprehension. Through the use of computer-generated algorithms, which MAOTIK tweaks with his own tools so that they improvise in real time and show contingency, his works transform the perception of space. Being in constant collaboration with artists from other disciplines as well as scientists, he investigates the relation between the arts and technology, exploring new artistic languages. MAOTIK holds a number of degrees, including Digital Media Production from the University of the Arts (London), an MA in Digital Arts from Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona). He later went on to teach as a professor with a focus on interactive design, generative design, augmented and virtual reality environments at the CODE University of Applied Sciences (Berlin). Over the last few years, his work has been presented at a number of international festivals and institutions, such as Mutek in Montreal, Sónar in Barcelona, Oi Futuro in Rio, Art Basel, Frieze London, FIAC Paris, Signal Festival in Prague, the British Film Institute in London, ARS Electronica in Linz, Miraikan Science Museum in Tokyo, Bucheon Art Bunker B39 Seoul, Funkhaus Berlin, and Philharmonie de Paris.

Curatorial Statement

The unique NFT drop based on audiovisual works by Maotik presents the reflections of the eternal and the natural, recreated and artistically reinterpreted by the author. The unpredictability of accidental consequences is part of the author’s creative search. MAOTIK uses generative tools to create a mirror-like synergy between the real and digital worlds, coding algorithms inextricably inspired by nature. He creates audiovisual sculptures that can breathe, move, and change shape; a mixture of nature, science, and technology that brings unique and unrepeatable experiences to the audience.
