Alexander Burenkov

Alexander Burenkov is a Paris-based curator of contemporary art, programmer, cultural producer, writer and founder of Yūgen App (launched at Porto design biennale in 2021). Alexander previously held positions of curator at the V-A-C Foundation and ISSMAG Gallery, senior curator of the National Contemporary Art Center, Khodynka Municipal Gallery, chief curator of Cosmoscow foundation as well as artistic director and chief curator of Ayarkut foundation and head of the department of Curatorial Studies in Moscow School of Contemporary Art. With focus on overlap between infrastructure, technologies, ecology, and web, investigating environmental transformations and their impact on societal structures and cultural production, Alexander’s curatorial work spans experimental exhibition formats beyond traditional white cube and alternative modes of education, ecocriticism and speculative ecofeminist aesthetics. He has held more than 20 exhibitions in various institutions, such as Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Russian Ethnographic Museum, ART4.ru museum, Russian State Library, Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture and Design, Art Athina fair (Athens), Fragment Gallery, Voskhod Gallery (Basel), HSE Art Gallery, Richter Hotel, ∆ Gallery Triangle, State Polytechnical Museum, JART Gallery, Cosmoscow art fair. Alexander's writing was published at Artforum, Contemporanea, Zora Zine, Umbigo, Aperto, Kommersant Art, Art Focus Now, Esp, Aroundart, Colta, Artguide, Esquire, Moscow Art Magazine, The Calvert Journal, East East, Dialogue of Arts, Strelka magazine, The Blueprint etc.
